Blog Round-Up: Game Day

Big Game is this weekend and I’m looking forward to watching my Cal Bears take on the Stanford Cardinal. I love appetizers and tailgating foods on a regular basis, but for an important game like this the menu has to be even better. I’ve been scoping out some good app recipes and think these might be winners:

Oven-Baked Tater Tots from Pennies on a Platter:

I love tater tots! To me, they’re perfect for Big Game because I ate an inordinate amount of tater tots during my freshman year at Cal. Well, tater tots, sugar cereal, and salads. The dorm cafeteria wasn’t great, but it had what I needed.

In keeping with the savory potato line of thinking, these Rustic 5-Spice Potato Chips from The Hungry Mouse look pretty good, too:

I’ve been wanting a mandolin for some time now and these chips might just be the perfect excuse to get one!

Joelen‘s Spicy Lime and Honey Chicken Wings look like a great game time snack, too:

I enjoy eating wings, but hate the mess of buffalo-style wings (particularly when it’s at someone’s house and not at a restaurant where you can expect them to clean up the mess!). These honey lime wings seem like a tasty take on a non-traditional wing.

And what tailgate is complete without cocktails? I love the idea behind these Strawberry Margarita Jell-O Shooters from Bakers Royale:

I’ve had similar jello shooters using orange wedges before and the fruit and jello combo is a winner. I’m going to ignore that these are red, like Stanford’s jerseys, and just appreciate a good use of the fall strawberries that are appearing at farm stands right now.

Let’s hope Cal is a winner this weekend, too. Go Bears!!
