Blog Round-Up: Seasonal Sweet Tooth

As you can probably tell, the cooler weather has me scrambling like a squirrel to…well, I don’t know, but hopefully not fatten up for the winter! It’s driven me to the kitchen, though, to warm up the house and my stomach. These recipes seem particularly appropriate and drool-worthy for the season.

Apple Cider Doughnuts from Smitten Kitchen:

Holy wow, these look amazing, don’t they?? They remind me of Russell Orchards and all their scrumdiddlyumptiousness. I was first introduced to apple cider doughnuts by one of my b-school professors who brought them in as a peace-offering for making us come to class on a Saturday morning. It was totally worth it. I want these now!

Pumpkin Seed Brittle from Gourmet via Epicurious:

I’ve wanted to make my own brittle for a while now, and this seems like the perfect seasonal recipe to do it. If my pumpkin seeds make it past the annual Halloween night roasting, this may become their destiny.

Quince and Apple Tart from Apartment Therapy’s The Kitchn:

I’m kind of obsessed with quinces right now and waiting impatiently for my tree to ripen! If you’ve never had quince, their fragrance and flavor are intoxicating! Apparently they’re related to the rose, hence the perfume-y smell, but they’re kind of apple-like in their appearance. You can’t eat them raw, but this recipe sounds like the perfect way to get them in my belly. I’m also looking forward to making membrillo (Spanish-style quince paste, *amazing* with manchego!!), as well as quince jam and jelly. Oh yes, little fruits, I have plans for you. Stay tuned for adventures in quince-land!
